The Northeast Pennsylvania Golf Classic will be moving to a new home course this year. In an exclusive interview with WYOU News, the Classic's Executive Director, Paul Taramelli, said that Elmhurst Country Club has agreed to host the tournament this August 18th through the 24th.

For the past eight years the Northeast Pennsylvania Golf Classic has been held at the Glenmura National Golf Course in Moosic. Members there, according to Taramelli, decided it was tie for someone else to hold the tournment. Taramelli said that nearly all of the members at Elmhurst voted in favor of holding the Classic there.

Taramelli said the fairways at Elmhust will be narrowed for the tournment while grass in the rough will be allowed to grow to about 4 inches. Several new Tee boxes are being built and accomodations will have to be made for spectators. The Northeast Pennsylvania Golf Classic has attracted as many as 42,000 spectators and a survey done by the PGA Tour reveled that the tournment adds about 4.2 million dollars to the area's economy.
