SHICKSHINNY, LUZERNE COUNTY- The Northwest Area Teachers Union has called off a planned strike for next week.

The union earlier this month set Monday, September 22 as a strike date. However, the union tells Eyewitness News it canceled the strike because both sides agreed to a series of contract negotiations.

The old contract expired three years ago, making the Northwest Area contract dispute the longest current one in Pennsylvania.
