Early snowfall created slow roads and confused drivers this morning in Bear Creek Township .

Snow on the ground this early in the fall has people like Gabriela Vitorino saying, "I'm very confused as to why it's snowing in October."

The white stuff has arrived in higher elevations like in Bear Creek Township .

Katherine says she prefers her snow during the winter, "It's cold, it's snowing. Mike asks, you wouldn't expect this October 15th? No you would not, it's too early."

A fall snow fall is creating quite the dilemma for Terri Dennison.

She's the executive director of the route 6 heritage corporation.

Her group normally promotes fall foliage tours this time of year.

"We've been getting calls all week long about fall foliage. And what do you tell them? It's snowing, come see the white along with the orange and reds and stuff," said Dennison.

Penndott crews were on the road Thursday, but they weren't laying salt like they normally would during snow.

The plows haven't even been put on the Penndot trucks yet.

Many of the drivers haven't finished their winter training yet and they were on the roads clearing icy patches.

Vitorino says conditions weren't very nice on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

"It was really bad. It started as rain and then all of the sudden it just turned into snow and everybody just started slowing down, it was just really backed up," said Vitorino.

But all the snow isn't much of a surprise to Jerry Burgess of Bear Creek Township .

"Well if you look back to last year I think we had quite a snowstorm at the end of October last year but it can't last. It's just a little taste of winter," said Burgess.

A taste of winter a few months early.
