How do you react when the office copier breaks or your co-worker doesn't pull his weight? If you yell and scream and make scene, you could suffer from desk rage. Consumer reporter Jeff Chirico here with more on what it is and how to stop it.

Losing your cool in the workplace is not something to laugh at. It can be a serious problem that bosses should address. The office can be a stressful place. When the pressure mounts all of us need to vent sometimes...this is a spoof concocted in a Russian television commercial. But the scene it depicts is all too familiar for many. It's called desk rage. Yeah, kind of like road rage but the screaming, cursing, and even violence happens at your desk.

This scene posted on youtube. com doesn't indicate whether it's real or not but people we spoke with say they've seen things like this happen in their offices.

Sal Leone a commodities trader says “I've seen people throw a chair at a window almost breaking a window."
Mark Korczak another commodities trader says "I just saw one of my associates pick up a phone and hit somebody over the head with the phone." Steve Cohen an attorney says "I think people are under a lot of pressure today with today's economy and in today's environment to produce results."

The things in our personal lives, like problems at home or struggles with the economy can certainly contribute to desk rage but experts say the corporate culture plays a large role as well. Chronic problems in the office that cause people to lose it.

Dr. Kerry Sulkowicz says “when people feel trapped in a bad situation at work and unable to do anything about it, they get angry." Darlene Batterson of Fordham University says “the whole office has the attitude, the boss has an attitude and everybody wants to shut down and go home."

Sulkowitz says rage can be avoided when workers are able to talk about what's wrong in the office. It's also incumbent on people to want to change. "Curse. Maybe throw a phone. Throw a pencil." "Do you feel bad about it?" "No. Not at all." …Which just might be the most enraging part.

Experts say take a deep breath after a clash with a coworker. For more tips on how to combat desk rage,
