THROOP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

Renovations are nearly complete on the former Thompson Electronics factory in Throop. The new owners are already attempting to find tenants for the 500,000 square foot building.

The Thompson company produced TV picture tubes at the factory. It closed its doors in 2001 leaving 1,100 workers without jobs.

The building was purchased by a partnersip involving New Boston Fund Inc. and Caracor Development LLC. Those companies have invested nearly 17 million dollars to purchase, clean, and renovate three buildings on the site. They are being marketed to manufacturing and warehousing companies on a lease basis.

Developers hope to attract tenants that will bring some jobs back to the now vacant Thompson factory.
