SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- An old Scranton School is getting a new lease on life! United Neighborhood Centers is in the process of converting the 100-year-old Harriet Beacher Stowe Elementary School into an apartment complex for working families. The building, which closed as a school 20 years ago, will hold 18 apartment units once the renovation work is completed. United Neighborhood Centers is a social service agency which addresses housing and economic development needs in the community. The work will cost an estimated five million dollars. The project is expected to be completed in about a year.
