One Lane Back Open on I-81 After Fiery Crash
One Lane Back Open on I-81 After Fiery Crash - Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 11:00AM EST
MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A tractor trailer crash and fire shuts down a busy highway in Lackawanna County for hours.
A truck hauling trash crashed and caught fire around 6:00 A. M. in a work zone on Interstate 81 northbound. It happened near the Rocky Glen Road overpass between the Moosic exit (180) and Davis Street exit (182).
The crash ripped an axle off the truck and also punctured its fuel tank. The highway was closed for almost five hours.
One lane reopened northbound at 11:00 A. M. Traffic is moving slowly through that area as of late morning, but the backup is still several miles long.
The detour left other area roads like Route 315, Route 11 and Main Street jammed all morning long.
The right lane will remain closed while repairs are finished. Those are expected to last through mid-afternoon. | |
