Route 6 --This week we continue our One Tank Trip along the scenic and historic Route 6. This year tourism officials have posted special mile markers to encourage Route 6 road trips. Last week we showed you what Route 6 has to offer in Wayne and Pike counties. Today, we head west through the Endless Mountains where travelers find natural and creative beauty in each quaint town.

It strings together town after small town. Virginia Castle of New York says "it's a beautiful route. We enjoy it."

Jean Gasper Endless Mountains Visitors Bureau "Route 6 is really the starting grounds" for sailing down the Susquehanna or savoring the local flavor at wineries.

Chug up to Towanda in Bradford County. The old train station offers something different. The Pennsylvania North Country Artisans Store sells hand-crafted gifts and locally-made food. Store manager Kathy Joyce says "we have jams from Troy, maple syrup from Rome." You can dine at the station which sits along the river. Stacy Garrity of Athens says there’s a beautiful view of the river, locally grown vegetables, and we just enjoy the atmosphere."

As we head east on 6 near Wyalusing, the region's natural beauty stops the Moore family in its tracks. David Moore says “where we are its a lot flatter, so you don't get a nice view with a hill like this. Really enjoy it."

A little further west on 6, there's another view with an unusual name. The Marie Antoinette overlook. Local lore says the French queen was to escape her country and settle down there along the river." 22 acres in the valley are preserved. Kate Angerson manages this historic site. ”its French Asylum which was a refuge or asylum for people fleeing France during the reign of terror." Archeologists uncovered foundations of original cabins that housed hundreds of wealthy French at the turn of the 19th century. A 200-year-old home shows off period pieces.

Further down route 6, we stop in Tunkhannock where dining and antiquing go hand in hand. “Bridge Street Marketplace is a consignment shop/co-op." where you can track down almost anything old on a roadway that links Pennsylvania's charming small towns.
