SNYDERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY --If high gas prices have you rethinking your summer plans, we have some great one day trips that won't use more than a tank of gas. Consumer reporter Jeff Chirico put the pedal to the metal in this Friday's One Tank Trip. It's a huge weekend for race fans in the Poconos. But if you're tired of just sitting in the stands, we found a place you can get in the race.

It's high-energy --- “Feels like I'm flying."

Heart-pounding fun.

Simon Egan/mechanic

"competition is great. This is racing at its finest."

Miniature metal machines whip across the track at S&S Speedway in Snydersville. "Everybody that comes in the door thinks they're Mario Andretti. But it puts manners on them pretty quickly when they get in and go out for the first time."

Whiteknuckling won't work here. It's a slick track. “Its like driving in the snow. You turn one way your rear end is going the other way." These go carts don't always go where you want. "Oh yea, there's people stuck more than they're are racing half the time."

Enough watching already. I jump in and challenge intern Amanda. And we're off. My tires feel like they're spinning out from under me. I turn the wheel the other way --and I'm back. I can't say the same for Amanda who ends up calling for her pit crew. Amanda Golasa/WBRE Intern "I thought I had it down but I spun out of control."

“These go-carts may only go 20 miles an hour but when you're behind the wheel, you feel like you're Tony Stewart." Yea, he and other racing greats have tried this track. Some even crashed.

Randy Smith/owner, S&S Speedway

"You’d think they'd never been in a race car before." Go carts---an adrenaline pumping one tank trip that won't have you racing to the gas pump. Children must be 4 foot 6 or taller to ride.

S and S Speedway is located in Monroe County about six miles from Stroudsburg. It took a half tank of gas to get there and back from our Wilkes-Barre studio.
