PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- The sounds of money are rolling in from a cash cow in Plains Township. Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is just five days away from its one-year anniversary, and it’s already brought in millions of dollars.

The Commonwealth's first casino has already paid out $890,000,000.00 dollars in winnings. Nearly one year later, the crowds keep rolling in to Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, hoping to hit it big.

Wanda Sitler is from Berwick. She comes twice a month, "$575.00 was my biggest which was exciting." In its first year, the Commonwealth's first casino cranked out more than $100,000,000.00 dollars thanks to 12-hundred slot machines and electronic black jack.

Bobby Soper is Mohegan Sun’s CEO, "Over half of that has gone to the state and local municipalities and horse racing industry and taxes."

Taxes to the tune of $2,600,000.00 bucks for projects like paving in Plains Township. Mary Lou Kurlancheek of Dallas likes to come once a month, “It’s been fabulous they've been wonderful.

Everything is clean and lovely and the people that come are wonderful it's been a good experience." So good Mary Lou Kurlancheek says she'll keep coming back to play her pennies.

Mary Lou Kurlancheek added, "Because it takes me longer to lose the money." Joe Thomas is here with his wife for the first time - thanks in part to having family in the area.

Joe Thomas said, "We figured we'd come up here to the casino and go over and visit them tomorrow."

Work is already well underway at Project Sunrise, the 300,000 square foot facility that will house 2500 slot machines and more.

CEO Bobby Soper added, "Three restaurants, one night club, bars and lounges, 6 or 7 retail stores, buffets, food courts and fun things to do."

A walking bridge will link gamers to both buildings. Gamer Wanda Sitler said, "Ah it's going to be nice. It’s close to home. We bring a couple bucks up when we're done, we're done."

There will be one-year anniversary cash prize give-a-ways every hour from the 14th, the actual anniversary date through November 20. Plains township leaders say they'll continue pulling in at least $2,300.000.00 tax dollars every year.
