LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Police in Lackawanna County banded together Friday night for a first of a kind effort to fight the drug trade, and officials tell us it won't be the last time they work in unison.

The evening before the 4th of July some Lackawanna County police departments were already showing their red, white and blue - with Operation Shock and Awe. It’s the first time they have banded together to focus on areas where residents have been complaining about drug activity.

Old Forge Police Chief Larry Semenza said, “Beginning tonight the Taylor, Moosic and Old Forge police target those places and stop vehicles that are illegal and moving in and out of those places.”

Taylor Police Chief Stephen Derenick said, “What we are trying to do is pool our resources with patrolman from different departments and that way we have enough manpower to do this. Where we can do vehicle stops, surveillance stops and all that.”

Moosic Police Officer John Chilleri added, “Our guys are out there, our eyes are out there with what goes on and we do some intelligence gathering and see where things are happening.”

Three different departments multiple police officers all adding up to one important message. “If you are frequenting these places, you are going to be stopped by police,” added Semenza.
