Other Half of Mother-Daughter Theft Duo Turns Herself In - Monday, January 5, 2009 at 5:30PM EST
SWOYERSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY- A woman accused of embezzling money from Swoyersville Volunteer Hose Company No. 1 has surrendered to face charges. We first told you about the case last week with the arrest of Carol Gamble. Now, Gamble's mother has turned herself in.
Investigators say this was a mother-daughter team, who stole close to $735,000. That money was intended for the fire department.
77-year-old Catherine Drago is accused of stealing $2,000 of bingo money. She was the Treasurer of the Swoyersville Volunteer Hose Company No. 1.
Detectives say she and her daughter, Carol Gamble, who was the president of the fire company, stole the money from 2004 and 2007. Drago admitted to giving false information to investigators.
Drago and her daughter remain free on bail. They will have hearings in several weeks. | |
