PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY - A Pennsylvania Patriot, who has ties to Luzerne County, has died in the line duty.

Military officials say Lt. Col. Richard Berrettini died Friday in Texas, nine days after his humvee was attacked in Afghanistan. The 52-year-old most recently lived in McKean County, but family members say he grew up in the Pittston-area and leaves behind a brother who still lives in Dupont.

Berrettini served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for more than 20 years and volunteered to serve overseas when he was killed. Two other people died in the same attack.
