The Kingston Armory was the backdrop to a grand celebration for our local men and woman fighting the war on terror for about a year. The soldiers from Wilkes-Barre , Hazleton , Williamsport , Honesdale, the Pocono’s had a temporary home-Afghanistan, where they fought terrorism.
But now, they're home.
“They belong to us, as a community,” said Clyde Modlesky of Plymouth, “and they should be honored for their sacrifice that they make.”
Friday night, 148 soldiers from the 109th, 228th support Battalion got a well-deserved thank you from the community.
Virginia Modlesky adds, “It actually warms my heart that these men and women do this for our country and for us and I'm fortunate enough to have many friends as veterans and it just touches my heart.”
Soldier's families call the separation, living on the edge.
“It's very difficult.”, says Linda Tessarvich of Glens Bay, New York,
“Your heart is constantly in your throat, and you're worried for your loved ones to come home.”
Corporal Ryan Craig was injured on his first tour of duty.
This time, he made it home safe and sound.
The corporal's sister, Christa said the experience was nerve-racking, “The news is what worried me the most, like sharing about the stuff.
Christa adds "But just staying in contact with him and hearing from him.
I prayed to God for him to be home okay.” | |
