Parades Held in Wilkes-Barre, Jim Thorpe

Parades Held in Wilkes-Barre, Jim Thorpe - Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 11:05PM EST

LUZERNE AND CARBON COUNTIES- Bagpipers took to the streets of Wilkes-Barre Sunday afternoon. The city held its 29th annual parade in honor of St. Patrick's Day.
Tens of thousands of people came out for all the fun. They watched as politicians and floats from businesses in the community passed by. Eileen Havard of Wilkes-Barre said, “The sun is shining. Look at the smiling faces of the kids here. They're having a wonderful time."

Robert Price added, “Everybody's out. Everybody's having a good time. Got myself a stylish new hat."

It wasn't just people who were enjoying the parade. We also found many pets showing their irish side.

And a Carbon County community swelled in size with Irish pride Sunday. Irish eyes were smiling at the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Jim Thorpe.

Thousands of parade goers dressed in green as they cheered on people marching the parade. Businesses along the parade route were cheering, too. Owners say it's one of their most profitable days.
