SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Tom Fritz and his wife, Robin, created S. P.R. I., the Society for Paranormal Research and Investigation, five years ago. Now, nearly 20 people are on their investigative team. People who think their homes or businesses are haunted contact S. P.R. I. for help.

"We can help them understand what they're seeing, feeling, and hearing," said Fritz. "Whether what they're experiencing is normal or not, when they talk to us, they usually have a better understanding of what's going on, and they're less afraid."

S. P.R. I. uses infrared cameras, hand-held video cameras with night vision, digital and tape audio recording equipment, and the buddy system.

"If somebody witness or experiences something, they have a witness right there," said Fritz.

Legend has it, Andy Gavin's Eatery and Pub in Scranton is haunted. So, Eyewitness News joined S. P.R. I. in their search for George the ghost.

"I've had a lot of people time me they've been touched on the shoulder and been in spots where it's very cold," said owner, Don Surace.

Bartender Angela Parrotta said one night, someone kept whistling at her, but she couldn't figure out who it was.

"So, I told Don, and he told me to not be worried, that it was just George whistling," Parrotta said. "And it made sense, because the whistling was coming from the side of the bar with the liquor, not the people, and I felt the air on my ear one time."

So, George had a lot to live up to when S. P.R. I. showed up. At one point, when a crew was in the basement, and rest of the team was sitting silently upstairs, they asked George to knock something over, and the videocamera recorded the sound of a chair falling over.

That was the only sign of George that night. But S. P.R. I. investigated the same bar in November of 2005, and a crew was talking to George, when a pot washer started to move on it's own.

"I wouldn't call either paranormal activity necessarily, but I call it interesting," said Fritz. "If it didn't go along with the hair-rising experience for the investigators, we might not have labeled it interesting."

He says experiences like these are reason enough to continue paranormal research and investigation.

"It's just like every other science that's out there. It started as a bunch of people saying, 'what if.' And some time, one of us is going to find it," said Fritz. "And not so secretly, I hope it's me."
