HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY- Parents and supporters are being invited to a meeting in Honesdale next week to discuss the possibility of starting an independent, Catholic based, school.

The move follows a recent announcement from the Scranton Catholic Diocese that Saint Vincent's, the only Catholic School in Wayne County, will close at the end of the current academic year.

Betty Lawson, whose daughter attends Saint Vincents, says she and many other area residents believe that is a desire to retain Catholic based education in the area.

Interested parties will meet on Thursday, February 12th at 7pm in the Wayne County Visitor's Bureau to discuss possible support for an independent school that would retain Catholic based education.

Some of the supporters have already consulted with officials from Saint Rose Academy in Mayfield, Lackawanna County. That independent school was created after the closing of Sacred Heart High School in Carbondale 5 years ago.
