SCOTT TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Church-goers in the Diocese of Scranton are speaking out about the news of their priest getting picked-up on drug charges.
Father James Shimsky was arrested in Philadelphia on January 30th after officers say he bought cocaine off a drug dealer in the city.
Shimsky is the pastor of the St. John Vianney Parish in Scott Township. Parishioners we talked with are supporting him.
Cantor John Ferraro said, ŅI was just a little shocked but he's in all of our prayers and I hope he gets better."
Parishioner Theresa Ferraro said, "We wish him the best. I know everybody here wishes him the best."
Shimsky is on a leave of absence from the diocese. Police in Philadelphia say the incident is still under investigation. | |
