PennDOT Able to Keep Up With Weekend Snow
PennDOT Able to Keep Up With Weekend Snow - Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:05PM EST
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- As the snow began to pile-up on Interstate 81 Saturday afternoon, drivers started to hit the brakes. PennDOT workers were out in full force with all of their state trucks and rented vehicles, working overtime to keep the roads clear.
PennDOT Highway Foreman Eugene Centi said, “The roads are okay. We're keeping up with it. We have enough trucks out and material. We just ask people that don't have to be out, to give us a chance to clean them all up."
On the side streets in downtown Wilkes-Barre cars also took it slow and shovels were the main tool of choice.
It was a Similiar scene in Scranton as Kevin Gill swept away several inches from his sidewalks. “It’s not bad. Its light and its easy to sweep. I'm waiting for the worst by tomorrow," he said.
Despite the weather the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton International Airport was still a busy place. Only one flight was cancelled because of weather. Mary Kay Hott is happy to go back home to Ohio because of the snow. “There's a lot more here than there is in Ohio, that's for sure," she said.
But for the DeLafuente family, they're thrilled. They turned their Scranton street into a tubing area. “As long as my kids are happy and enjoying the snow, nothing matters." | |
