TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY - While many companies let workers go, one organization needs to hire hundreds of people, the Pennsylvania State Police.
Trooper Ann Marie Cebula left the health care field to join the state police. She said, "I love it. It's the best decision I've ever made."

Now she encourages others to make the same decision. She and Trooper William Shamnoski recruit prospects at Northampton Community College.

The police are hiring about 250 people. The starting salary is more than $50,000. Shmanoski says there's also a great benefits package with medical coverage, pension, and paid training. So Eyewitness News asked, "Why is it so hard to find applicants?" Shamnoski said, "It's something you have to realize that you're out here protecting, that you might have to give your life to save another."

The troopers say intensive training helps them deal with tough situations. "We provide the best training to go out there. You're confident enough to know you will be safe and those you protect are safe," said Cebula.

Shamnoski started his career 16 years ago. He's arrested a lot of people but he says that's not why he loves his work. He explained, "For me, more rewarding, talking people through a tough situation, helping out with a good result instead of an arrest."

It's a job that helps you stay on your feet and helps others stay safe.
