Pennsylvania Turnpike Lease Bids Announced

Pennsylvania Turnpike Lease Bids Announced - Monday, May 19, 2008 at 6:10PM EST

HARRISBURG- The Pennsylvania Turnpike could soon be under new management. Governor Ed Rendell announced the winning bidder for the turnpike lease Monday.

The 12.8 billion-dollar 75-year lease will go to three private companies. That means there will not be any tolls on Interstate 80.

The state will still own the turnpike but the governor says it will free up more funding for bridge and road repair.

Some drivers we talked with say it is good news while others are not so sure.

Before it becomes a reality it must get approval from state lawmakers.
