WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Philadelphia Daily News reporter Kitty Caparella has covered the mob, outlaw motorcycle clubs, white supremacists and more.
She's also been threatened.
Thursday night, she spoke at Wilkes University.
The program was sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists and WBRE.
Caparella, a former Pulitzer Prize nominee, has spent 37-years in the newspaper industry.
She's covered some of the more hostile situations and figures.
Caparella said intervention begins on the school yard playground.
Caparella said, "I think if you get people early in schools, you know, you're not going to have the kind of violence that comes from some of those groups later. "
Today, Caparella said the Philadelphia mob is "quieter."
She said most of the more publicly violent figures were jailed in 2001. | |
