Williamsport, Lycoming County- A phishing scam is stealing bank account information over the phone. Williamsport Bureau of Police has fielded complaints over the past few days involving false information being given to the victims with regards to their bank accounts being compromised.
The victims are receiving a recorded message stating, "Your (name of the bank) account has been compromised. Please call 1-877-800-9161." When the victim contacts this number they are asked to verify account information either by entering it on the key pad or by some ther means.
If you receive a call like this contact your local bank immediately. No information should be given over the phone to persons unknown to you.
