Pioneers Arena Football Player Arrested

Pioneers Arena Football Player Arrested - Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 5:40PM EST

LUZERNE COUNTY- A star player for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Pioneers is busted on drug and weapons charges.
Police have been looking for Isaac “Ike” Hilton for several months. But he was out of town, since the Pioneers were in the off season. When he came back to the area, he was picked up. In fact he was arrested at practice Tuesday morning.

Hilton said nothing as he was brought to a district justice to face drug and weapons charges. The 28-year-old was quiet in handcuffs, but he is anything but quiet.

When he's in uniform on the field, he is a star player. He’s the sack leader for the Pioneers and a fan favorite.

But detectives say he was selling marijuana from his Kingston home. Kingston Police Chief Keith Keiper said, "It all started back in November. We got a call from another jurisdiction about a male selling marijuana out of a residence at 124 Second Avenue. We did a search warrant and Mr. Hilton was ID'd."

Police had an arrest warrant several months ago, but Hilton was out of town in South Carolina for the off-season. When he came back to the area, they arrested him.

They came to Pioneers practice at the Sports Dome near Wilkes-Barre and took him out in handcuffs.

This is not Hilton’s first brush with the law. He served time for armed robbery in South Carolina. He was also arrested for firing a shotgun inside his Kingston apartment.

Nobody was hurt. And a friend who lived with him was a convicted sex offender hiding from police in South Carolina. He was busted several months ago.

For pioneer fans, it’s a sign of the times. Virginia Jones of Wilkes-Barre said, "No, I'm not surprised. In this valley it seem like every other person in the valley knows or buys drugs or knows where to get them... what have you. No, I'm not surprised."

He was locked up unable to post $25,000 bail. At the hearing, in fact, he asked the judge to let him free on his own recognizance, because he has a game this weekend and he wants to play.

The owner of the Pioneers, Cosmo DeNicola, says Hilton was suspended by the league and the team will let the legal system take its course.
