PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- To many people, Pittston is the tomato capitol of the world. The red fruit is being celebrated this week.

The 26th Annual Pittston Tomato Festival got underway Thursday night. The event attracts thousands of people to Pittston each year.

And, as you can imagine, Italian food rules during this four day event. “I think they can expect, as always, a lot of great food, a lot of great fun. We've got some great bands that are playing. Saturday's a great day with the parade. We have the 5k race on Saturday. It's a great opportunity to get out and see family and friends from all over northeastern Pennsylvania," said Mike Lombardo.

Also a new Miss Pittston Tomato was crowned. And don't forget on Saturday, it's the big tomato fight.
