A Pittston man wants to help clean the bp oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico from Luzerne County.
He says his possible solution is falling on deaf ears.
"I can't believe nobody in a tighter circle than we are to the problem isn't seeing this stuff. it's just not somehow getting picked up," said John Franco of Pittston.
What's not getting picked up is Franco's company's cleanup ideas.
He created Project With a Purpose LLC with a business partner.
Their business pitch includes placing several GPS devices on booms, which contain the spill.
Franco said, "Once these booms are nice bright red when they're bought, but once they go in, they're black. So then they're gone. In an ocean situation they're just gone."
When they're gone, Franco says it's tough to track where the spill flows.
He also wants hydrocarbon testers on buoys surrounding the spill.
This could help gauge how widespread water is contaminated.
Franco says he's pitched the idea to BP, Transocean, the EPA, and even to the white house.
BP has publicly said it's swamped with cleanup solution ideas but Franco says he hasn't heard anything back since mid-May.
"Everyone should get a call back from even a low level administrative assistant saying, hey, tell me a little more about your idea. There wasn't even that response," said Franco.
If Project With a Purpose doesn't get any response back soon Franco's not ruling out the possibility of driving to the gulf to pitch his ideas face to face. | |
