PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY -- Department of Public Works crews spent Sunday cleaning up what Saturday's rain left behind here.
"The township cleans up the road, but that's the end of the situation," said Robert Baloga, who lives along Driftwood Drive.
He says water runs down from Saylor Avenue onto the land next to his home, then spills into a number of yards.
"When we had heavy rains here, you could run a boat through the yard," added Baloga.
People who live in Hilldale Park tell us the problem starts on private land owned by the Earth Conservancy. They say the water builds up and comes down into the streets and the water carries rock and debris throughout their development.
Saturday night's rainfall looked like a stream along Driftwood Drive in front of Baloga's house. He tells us a trench was dug on the private land to keep the rain water from flooding the roads. But he thinks the trench has filled up with debris and wants the township to dig it out again.
"When we had machinery here, I would keep the ditch up and take care of it," said Baloga.
Plains Township commissioners Ron Filippini and Rose Corcoran tell Eyewitness News the township can't go onto the private land and fix the trench without permission from the Earth Conservancy. Corcoran adds Hilldale Park is one of many areas in Plains Township with drainage problems, and says the township is trying to address as many as possible. | |
