Plymouth Twp. to Merge Fire Companies
Plymouth Twp. to Merge Fire Companies - Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 10:26AM EST
PLYMOUTH TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY- Plymouth Township will now have one fire company. Township supervisors voted unanimously Monday night to merge Plymouth Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 with Tilbury Volunteer Fire Company.
The decision came after more than a year of talks. Both companies wanted to keep their identities, but in the end, money and resources were major factors for the merger. Chief John Rinehimer says, "The bottom line's that we got to do what's right for the people and the board has bent over backwards trying to get us to work together. And we've tried to reach out, and we're going to continue to reach out."
The new company will be named Plymouth Township Fire and Rescue Company Number 1. The Tilbury station will serve as headquarters. | |
