STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - One town in northeastern Pennsylvania is bucking the economic trend. Three new stores will soon open in downtown Stroudsburg. A juice bar, a bagel shop, and a clothing store are all on the way.
She's fighting an economic downturn with uptown style on Main Street.
"It''s a wonderful town with a lot of great stores upcoming and existing," said Iris Grubler the owner of I on Style. A clothing and accessories store set to open Saturday. She said, "I really think this is a perfect time to open a shop as mine."
Perfect timing because her store sells lightly worn items. "It's good quality at good prices, at a time when everyone is strapped," she explained.
But Iris said don't call her items used. "Rejuvenated, rejuvenated," she emphasized.
You'll also find some new items at I on Style, like jewelry handmade by a local artist. "I try very hard to represent local artists and craftsmen," said Iris.
Nearby shop owners said they're glad to see her fill an empty storefront. Paul Fitzpatrick owns an Irish gift shop. She said, "The more different variety of stores that you have, it makes the town more interesting and people will like to walk on Main Street."
And while Iris knows it might be hard to operate in this economic climate, she says she's in good with the one who controls the weather. She explained, "As a Jewish woman, I know that one cannot succeed without faith in God."
