STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY -- A jury has reached a verdict in a double murder trial in the Poconos.
They found 26-year-old Jason Koehler guilty of first degree murder for the shooting death of 42-year-old Jennifer Cullinan.
He was also found guilty of third degree murder for the death of 19-year-old Jason Gray. He was also convicted for attempted murder charges for a shooting victim that survived.
The death penalty phase of the trial will being Thursday morning. The jury will decide if Koehler should spend life in prison or be given the death penalty.
The shootings happened in 2004, after Koehler went to Jennifer Cullinan's home where Gray was selling drugs. Prosecutors say Koehler shot and killed Gray, shot and wounded Jose Joubert. Cullinan was also hit, but lawyers disagree on the circumstances.
The defense claimed Cullinan was caught in the crossfire. The prosecution says Koehler shot her intentionally. That's the shooting that has Koehler now facing the death penalty. | |
