EAST STROUDSBURG - A Monroe county woman regrets giving away her puppy and now she's fighting to get it back.
A few months ago Tania Kuhenbeaker adopted a pup named Miller.
Her mom, Connie Bishop, adopted another puppy from the same litter. His name is Buddy. Lately Miller hasn't been able to play with his brother because Connie gave him away.
She said, "I will never get over that. I will never get over what I did."
Connie brought Buddy home when he was only a few weeks old. She said her boyfriend was not happy because Buddy wasn't house trained.
Connie started to worry whether she could train Buddy and still keep her boyfriend happy. She became overwhelmed and gave Buddy to a rescue group named Camp Papillion.
Her boyfriend's reaction surprised her. She explained, "He couldn't believe I did what I did - he said I was just starting to get to know the dog and just really starting to like him."
A few hours later she called the folks at Camp Papillion and cried, "..please can I have him back - I really regret what I did."
But the rescue group would not bring the dog back. A spokesperson said the group is unsure Bishop can care for the puppy. And added Bishop did not get the dog vaccinated and kept him tied up outside without water.
Bishop argued, "That's not true a all. That's not true."
Whether it's true or not, Buddy is now in a foster home and he'll stay there until someone adopts him. Connie wants other people who are considering giving up a pet to make sure that's what they really want before it's too late.
The Camp Papillion spokesperson said Connie is welcome to fill out an adoption application to re-adopt Buddy. To get him back she would have to pay the $250 adoption fee, pass a home inspection and prove she can care for the Puppy.
