SCOTT TWP., LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- The Hubbard Bicycle Club Polar Bear Plunge brings people out of their winter clothes and into a frigid Lackawanna County pond.
It's 13 degrees in Scott Township, but that didn't stop people from diving in a frozen pond. Rob Gregory of Olyphant said, "It's cold but once you get out you can actually tolerate it. So maybe a second jump is in order."
But for these polar bear plungers freezing their tails off is worth it. They're raising money for Northeastern Pennsylvania's ARC, servicing people with developmental disabilities.
One diver said, "It's a great cause and I would do anything for them and it's great awareness and a great fundraiser."
Last year's Polar Bear Plunge raised $1,600. Organizers hope money raised this year will exceed that amount. | |
