PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- It's the middle of summer, time for many of us to relax and have fun. But summer is also when we sometimes let down our guard when it comes to safety. A special program was held Monday to help children and parents keep safety a priority.
The sunshine was bright and the air was warm what better way to spend a summer day than to go into the house not just any house a fire safety house.
The Pittston Fire Department showed kids what to do if fire starts in their homes. It’s all part of a child safety day sponsored by the Laflin Police Department. They joined forces with the Jenkins Township Police and the Luzenre County Sheriff's Department to help keep our kids safe.
Mothers say it was well worth the time. Sandy Yasgremski of Laflin said, "Just really to be aware of dangers they have in the house. Let parents be aware to make sure they're keeping up safety, letting their kids know what to do."
Andy Mehalshick also presented his stranger danger series to the kids. It teaches them what to do if they are approached by a stranger. Andy says the kids really paid attention and asked some great questions.
Noelle Benderavich of the Laflin Recreation Board says the bottom line is protecting our kids. "Basically to increase awareness tell them what do to in a fire any type of situation help their parents as well."
