EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - A high school athletic director has been fired after some say he allowed students to drink inside a school building. It happened at Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg.

Sources say a school official supplied alcohol to kids during an overnight gathering at the school on August 29th. It's a Notre Dame tradition for sports teams to spend a night camping out at school. According to police six members of the girls' field hockey team stayed over that night. They ranged in age from 14 to 17 years old.

It appears two school officials were somehow involved with the drinking. The Diocese of Scranton confirmed Field Hockey Coach Eileen Hines was suspended but would not say why or for how long. The Diocese also confirmed Athletic Director Anthony Creece was fired about a week after the incident.

Eyewitness News attempted to talk to Creece at his apartment in Stroudsburg but his landlord said he abruptly moved out over the weekend.

Eyewitness News asked dozens of students what they thought about it. Only one agreed to speak on camera. She is Senior LIndsay Riter. She said she believes the students involved should be punished, not Creece. She explained, “He’s not the one shoving drinks down their throat or anything.”

The school principal told Eyewitness News he couldn't specify what punishments that students might face. Ritter said, ”They never got in trouble for it at all.”

Police say they are in the final stages of the investigation and expect to file charges within the next few days.

Creece was once a star defender on East Stroudsburg University's Soccer team. He also played for a minor league soccer team and earned the Colonial Soccer League Coach of the Year Award several times.

Creece was recently named an Assistant Coach for the minor league team "The Pocono Snow." The league manager said he had "no comment" on this story.
