Police Looking for Possible Child Stalker

Police Looking for Possible Child Stalker - Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 9:56PM EST

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY- We have a warning for parents and children in the Nanticoke area to be on the alert for a possible stalker. Children in that area say they've seen a man hanging around their school and bus stop.

Nanticoke police are not taking any chances. They know a suspicious man has been seen around a bus stop and here near the elementary center. The question remains, what is he up to?

Elementary students say they first spotted the suspicious man at the bus stop on West Main and Slope Street in Nanticoke. The man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and appeared to be carrying a camera. Another student said he saw that same man near the elementary center. She told school officials who then called police.

Nanticoke Police Captain Bill Schultz says, “It's very apparent there is someone in that area, wheither they live in the area or not doing anything wrong. They are certainly suspicious in nature. We got to find out if the individual is contemplating something suspicious in nature to further our investigation."

Another girl said the same man was in the Apollo Circle neighborhood in the spring. He came onto her porch and then left. The bus stop is near the Apollo Circle neighborhood. There are a lot of kids here and parents are concerned.

Parent Brenda Klos says, “We want to get on it right away, especially at this time of year. People are sometimes depressed. They do things they normally don't do and they got to move on it."

And that's why police want parents to get involved. Schultz states, "The only way we can solve the problem is if parents talk to their children and call us. We can interview their children and hear what they have to say."

The man is described as white, between 20 and 30 years old, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black or blue baseball hat. If you have any information call Nanticoke Police at 735-2200 or 9-1-1.
