LENOXVILLE, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY - State police say they're making a major dent on a drug pipeline operating on Interstate 81 in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Troopers say a majority of the recent arrests are being made on Interstate 81 in southern Susquehanna County.

Since the beginning of the year, investigators say they've made at least 15 sizeable arrests. The latest came this week when troopers found marijuana and about $23,000 worth of drug money in a vehicle. Two people were arrested.

"It's a good thing and it's about time they crack down on a lot of the drugs around the area," Betty Lockwood of Lenox said.

"We're blessed and cursed with the Interstate system that we have," Trooper Bill Satkowski said. "We do know that we're relatively close to New York City, Binghamton and Philadelphia, so we do know that drugs are coming through."

Trooper Satkowski says troopers aren't out searching for the drugs. Routine traffic stops for speeding and aggressive driving are just turning bigger.

"Part of our job is we want to keep the highways safe and when we do make a traffic stop and are able to stop somebody, we do look beyond that traffic stop," Trooper Satkowski said.

That's something Ginger Compton likes to hear.

"It's a good thing they're cracking down on them," Compton said.

"It makes you wonder why you would speed if you have a car load of drugs and then just get caught. It makes you wonder," Lockwood said.
