Police Nab Fiorelli's Arsonist

Police Nab Fiorelli's Arsonist - Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 11:50PM EST

BLAKELY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The man accused of setting the fire that destroyed a Mid-Valley Lackawanna County business is in jail. Fire gutted Fiorelli's Catering nearly a month ago. And it's the second time an arsonist struck in only a few years.

Homeless and hungry, the D. A.'s office says Robert Woolaver lit the fire. Corey Kulcharno of the Lackawanna Co. D. A.'s Office said, “He was hungry.”

The flames swept through Fiorelli's Plaza in Blakely. The business has sat useless since March 31st. Police tell us Woolaver admits to the torching. He was apparently using the place at night, and tried to cook some food, starting the fire.

The arrest comes as good news for Randy Bernardi. He works next door from Fiorelli's. And since the fire, most of the businesses along this strip have worried, could they become targets. “I mean you don't know if they're going to hit one place and go to another,” said Bernardi.

Some 200 firefighters battled the smoke and flames. One even had a heart attack. Woolaver wouldn't answer our questions. One of the most pressing, is this arson connected with what appears to be a pattern of other suspicious fires? The D. A.'s office won't say.

“You don't wish anyone bad luck, you know. We just feel relieved that they were caught with the string of arsons going on. You never know, like when I leave here at night, I never know,” Bernardi added.

Woolaver is in jail. His bail set at $200,000.
