EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - Two Stroud Area Regional Police Officers will soon be laid off. They are John Egan and Paul Duffy.
Duffy said, "It was a little disheartening to find out I was going to be laid off." Then he learned his wife, who is seven months pregnant, will likely be laid off as well. She works in a Lackawanna County office. Duffy said, "It was a very stressful time for both of us and it continues to be."
When other officers and their families heard about the Duffy's situation - they said they had to do something to help - so they started a drive to collect baby products.
Tina Transue said, "Pregnancy is not a time for stress or to be upset and we're just trying to ease that for them." She and other volunteers wanted to make sure baby Nathan Duffy has everything he needs when he's born. Volunteer Jessica Ritchie said, "We're just trying to show our appreciation to all the officers."
Duffy smiled, "I can't believe how supportive they've been and I'd like to thank them for that." He told Eyewitness News he wishes he could find a way to thank all of the people who are helping his family. He said, "I think the main way I could do that is to remain a police officer here with the Stroud Area Regional Police Department and do my job with the conviction that I've always had - even moreso now due to the generosity of the community."
Officer Duffy holds on to hope that his job might some how be saved.
You can drop off baby supplies or gift certificates for baby supplies at General Flooring in Stroudsburg or Rudy's Tavern in East Stroudsburg. | |
