Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County-
Police in one part of central Pennsylvania have a new weapon in their battle against impaired drivers.
The Old Lycoming Township Police Department recently received grant money to purchase an Eyecheck Pupillometer.
It’s a handheld device that screens for impairment by tracking the pupil’s reaction to different lighting conditions.
Officers say it will be used as an extra check if they believe a person is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Officer Jeffrey Hughes noted, “The Pupillometer actually does all the work for you and it’s going to tell you if a person is under the influence of a drug.”
Old Lycoming Township’s is one of only three Eyecheck Pupillometers being used in the state. Officers say it’s just another tool to help them keep impaired drivers off the road. | |
