Hughesville, Lycoming County-

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, having to bury a child whose life is just getting started. That’s what happened to the Myers family.

According to police, Marilyn Myers’ son, Seth, was killed in a car crash while driving at a high rate of speed here along Wolf Run Road near Hughesville in October of 2005. Another teen in the car also died as a result of the crash.

Five days later, Mrs. Myers set up a memorial fund for her son.

Now police say she made personal use of more than $5,000 from the fund- money that was supposed to be used for scholarships for students.

Jeff Miller, of Huntersville, noted, “I’ve heard the kids talk about them from being in school and stuff. You know they’re just not that kind of people from what I know about that area there.”

Myers is also accused of stealing more than $6,000 while she served as treasurer of the Hughesville Wrestling Booster Club.

Attempts to reach Marilyn Myers for comment by phone and at her home were unsuccessful.

According to arrest papers, Mrs. Myers reasoning was that, “she had just been diagnosed with asthma, and did not have much sick time built up at work. She stated she needed the money.”

Miller said, “If it is true that she actually took that money, you know, whatever the circumstances are, make restitution.”

Myers now faces multiple counts of theft and receiving stolen property. She was released on $25,000 bail.

Miller added, “You know it’s just a sad sign of the times I guess.”

Attempts to reach the Hughesville Wrestling Booster Club for comment were unsuccessful.
