OLYPHANT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Police in Lackawanna County are investigating a grizzly discovery. They're looking into bones found in the Mid-Valley that appear to be human skeletal remains.

The scene of the discovery is in Olyphant in a privately-owned reclaimed mining area off Marshwood Road. Police were summoned there Sunday afternoon after some kids riding ATV's came upon the bones.

Police posted evidence markers over a pretty wide area where the bones were found. Lackawanna County's mobile command vehicle arrived at the scene to help in the investigation.

State police are expected to intensify the investigation first thing Monday morning -- including bringing in a forensic anthropologist.

In the meantime, troopers have Olyphant police guarding the scene throughout the night.
