WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- 'Tis the season for flat tire and alignment repair. Potholes, the dark, dingy roadway abysses are cropping up on streets all over Luzerne County, Wilkes-Barre included.
With shouts of "It's time we fill those holes," potholes are back, born-again with a whole new vengeance.
"We got people banging their cars up and stuff like that, it's awful, awful. You could ruin a nice machine like I'm driving right now," Jeremy Davis said, about to drive into two deep holes on Franklin Street in downtown Wilkes-Barre. He steered around them and saved his "nice machine."
In the Parson's section of town, a white Volkswagen Jetta slammed down into a crater on Mill Street. Susan Urban watches the cars deal with the hole daily. She says the city has been out to address the problem before. "They've come and repeatedly patched it maybe 10, 12 times. And it just keeps breaking up like this," Urban said.
The weather hasn't exactly helped in the fight against potholes. Public works crews are having a difficult time patching because of the showery days. City leaders want to know if you've been "potholed," so they can get to work on a fix.
