Eyewitness News has learned Price Chopper is shelving the Senior Citizen Discount Day beginning this Tuesday July 29th. Signs have been posted in Price Chopper's seven local stores in Luzerne, Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties. This comes as shoppers are dealing with rising food prices. The government says the cost of groceries has gone up more than seven percent since last year. Folks we spoke with at the store in Edwardsville have mixed feelings about the announcement.
Corporate officials say the decision to dump the senior discount is so they can offer better savings to everyone dealing with high prices. So Price Chopper is expanding other discount programs. The goal is to offer the best savings to the most people. One of those programs is the gas discount program. It has been a huge success.
