Prized Buck Killed, Stolen from Breeding Farm - Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 3:30PM EST

WEST PENN TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY -- Mike Comisac owns the Big Oak Whitetail Ranch located here. He's still in shock, after someone killed his prized buck and took him from his breeding pen.

"I just feel empty inside. That deer was the best deer I ever had," said Comisac. "We figured he would be safest in the breeding pen through hunting season."

He figured wrong. On Thursday, he saw the buck's two prized male offspring dead in the pen, and realized their father was missing. "They got the other deer so excited, they broke their necks trying to get away from all the commotion," said Comisac.

Comisac says his buck was dragged about 1,000 feet from a field, through a barn and two fences, to a vehicle waiting alongside the road. "It had to be somebody that was physically fit and more than one person," Comisac said. " I would suspect they had a truck because his horns wouldn't have fit in a trunk of a car."

The buck was 300 pounds, had 22 points on his rack, and was a stud worth about $50,000. He was bred so his offspring could be hunted on Comisac's 100-acre preserve. "He can't ever be replaced," said Comisac. "Something that's gone forever."

West Penn Township Police say the investigation is tough. More than two inches of rain washed away potential evidence, except for the deer's fur, which was caught on some rocks. But they hope someone who sees this story comes forward. "I want to put a reward out of $5,000 for the arrest and conviction of the person that did this," Comisac said.

That's a small price to pay, he says, for finding whoever killed his big buck. Anyone with information can call West Penn Township Police at 386-1100.
