A number bicyclists from across the nation participated. The 50-mile race traveled through Wilkes-Barre and near the new River Common.
A lot of people turned out to watch the race. This is the first time this race was held in Wilkes-Barre. Race organizer Phil Cable said, "We put it in downtown Wilkes-Barre to promote everything they have put into place here. We got a beautiful venue, we got the brand new riverfront, we are utilizing the lights, itŐs a twilight race it will end in the dark."
Mayor Tom Leighton added, "ItŐs just great to have these professional riders going through the streets of Wilkes-Barre. I just participated in the amateur race, to look at the people on South Main Street and Public Square, at the restaurants dining outdoors, itŐs a fantastic view."
They hope to make the race an annual event. | |
