SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY --Barack Obama, John McCain and our own Candice Kelly have this in common. We're all left-handed. So is ten percent of the population. Some say we're at a disadvantage in a right-handed world. But one local woman wants to change that. Our fellow southpaw, consumer reporter Jeff Chirico is here with more.

It's International Lefthanders Day and it's goal is to raise awareness of our disadvantages. Did you know mugs are made for right-handers? If you hold it with your left hand, you'll never see the picture. But one Lackawanna County lefty is hoping to make life easier for people like us.

”Like 9 in 100 Americans, I'm a lefty and it ain't all peaches and cream." Ned Flanders said it. Catherine Martens lives it. "I'm a left-handed person."

Catherine’s sister Eric Martens says "I feel like in some things she's at a disadvantage"

Putting at Lahey Family Fun Park in Clarks Summit could be one. Catherine Martens of Harford says “There are holes that are designed to be hit from the other direction."

Lefties gripe about gripping things. Yaakov Kaganoff says “scissors are made for righties." "There are a lot of products built for right handed people.

"Imagine being a lefty and driving standard. Good thing I drive automatic."

Dale Hersh of leftyscorner. com says we've come along and scoured the world and found left handed products people can use." Unlike the Leftorium on the Simpsons --Dale Hersh sells from her Clarks Summit home through . Scissors, corkscrews, toothbrushes, notebooks. "You write this way instead of this way because your arm is on the rings."

And this pen solves my big beef. "No smudge. If only they created this 20 years ago." Despite the trouble, lefties are a proud lot. "I think we should shake with our left. Oh yea, there you go. Happy Lefthanders Day..." With a secret handshake to boot. "To Ned Flanders -the richest left-handed man in town."
