Project 2012 Open House

Project 2012 Open House - Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 6:45PM EST

Williamsport, Lycoming County-
Major changes are coming to medical care in Central Pennsylvania over the next few years.

Susquehanna Health System is on the verge of becoming a true regional medical center. They held an open house Thursday evening.

$250 million in renovations and expansion to all three of its local hospitals should mean even better health care for our area.

Susquehanna Health System Marketing Director Tracie Witter said, “It will allow us to recruit physicians, highly sought-after physicians and specialists to a brand new health care facility.”

The use of a new energy service center is expected to improve air quality.

Witter explained, “It actually is able to control the air temperature and humidity in 70 different patient care environments, which will allow us to better treat disease.”

And new technology being installed will save more than a few trees. Witter noted, “We’re going to be a paper-less, chart-less facility, so all of the technology and information for the patient will be at the bedside.”

New construction, including a patient tower with 72 private units, will be environmentally-friendly. Builders will use recycled construction materials and keep a keen eye on water and energy efficiency.

That focus is expected to help deflect rising utility costs.

L. E.E. D. consultant Michael Pavelsky explained, “The decisions that we make now will have great rewards for the Health System for years to come. In terms of increasing energy costs, we’re going to actually be able to mitigate that with strategies that we put into place now.”

Health System officials say all these changes are geared toward one ultimate goal- improving patient care. It's an area in which Susquehanna Health already ranks among the best in the nation.

Officials believe these renovations will improve the landscape of medical care throughout the region for generations to come.
