NORTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- We caught up with people picking pumpkins from Roba Family Farms here Sunday morning.

"We have a lot of land, so we were looking for bigger ones you can see from the road," said Jennifer Adams of Lake Ariel. "We found big ones, a lot bigger than normal," said Adams.

Some might be surprised to hear that, after farmers said unexpected weather conditions during planting season affected the crop.

"There are less pumpkins than normal because of the weather in June, the cold rainy weather," said John Roba, owner of the farms.

He says it's less quantity, but the quality is excellent. Because of the shortage in some places, Roba says some farmers will have to ship pumpkins in and charge more. But he's managed to keep his prices the same as past years. Some pumpkin pickers heard about the potential problems, and got out early to pick.

"My daughter mentioned it to me yesterday," said Chris Fuller of Scranton, who braved the drizzle and chilly temperatures Sunday with her kids. "We feel kind of lucky. We have the pick of our pumpkins. We're the only ones here at the moment."

But just like the pumpkin growing season, the crowd will change with the weather.
