(NANTICOKE, Luzerne County)
Racially motivated threats in one Luzerne County School District bring police to the Greater Nanticoke Area High School. It all started with the exchange of racial slurs between two students last week.

One by one, students and their parents leave Nanticoke Area High School after racially charged threats sent them in to panic mode.

Trish Buczek came to pick up her 15-year-old daughter, Brianna, "She called me up on my cell phone really upset about it. I moved up here from New Jersey to get away from drama and crime and I'm not taking a chance you never know."

Student Brianna Buczek said, "I just heard people talking about things, that's pretty much it and I got scared." All this, hours after state, local and federal authorities responded to rumors about planned school violence on the property.

Denise Nirka is another Parent. She drove away with her 9th grader in tow. Nirka told WBRE-TV "I don't want to take the chance. There's too much school violence." Superintendent Tony Perrone says a disagreement between a male and female student last week sparked several of those rumors this week.

They, he (Perrone) says spiraled out of control.. Perrone added, "And from that rumors spread about a fight and someone might take a gun to school and the kids went home."

Nirka’s son also spoke with WBRE-TV, "I heard stuff about a gun fight." The school sprang into action, planting more than a dozen police officers in and around the property. Perrone said, "What we did was take a proactive approach. Police were instrumental.

The Sheriff's Department helped us and when the kids came to school, we had staff from all over the area working with us and we had no problems." Potential problems, Superintendent Perrone says the Internet Website 'Myspace' helped add fuel to the fire.

The Superintendent tells us there were more than a dozen police officers on hand at the school Wednesday morning. Again, there was no violence, no weapons found and nobody hurt.
