Rash of Daylight Break-ins in Kingston
Rash of Daylight Break-ins in Kingston - Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 5:50PM EST
KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- People in Kingston are being warned to keep an eye out for burglars. There have been a series of break-ins and they're happening in broad daylight.
Nicole and Maria enjoy a the nice weather with their children on the front porch of their home in Kingston. It is the kind of day we wait all winter for. They were surprised when we told them about the police warning about daylight burglaries.
"This is a very busy street, a lot of pedestrians walking up and down. We don't always know who is here, also renters are in the blocks. We don't always know who permanent residents are, it is a little nerve-racking," said Nicole.
Maria said, "It is surprising. I would think people try to break-in when they couldn't be seen so that's kind of brazen - shocking."
Most would assume the break-ins would take place overnight in the dark. But police say they often case a home in broad daylight, then smash through the backdoor.
Elly grew up in Kingston. Her 91-year-old mom still lives here, but she takes precautions. "She's been aware for a long time that when she goes upstairs or she's not in certain parts of the house she locks the back of the house," said Elly.
Kingston Police ask you to give them a call if you see anything suspicious. | |
